Small tour operators are peeved that airline companies are not co-operating with them by offering discounted tickets and allowing bulk bookings where the names of passengers can be filled in later.
The Dau Tu (Viet Nam Investment Review) newspaper quotes Le Quang Dao, deputy director of the Vietnamese Vision Tourism Co, as saying, "If both sides don"t support each other on pricing and advertising, any joint campaign to boost the tourism potential of a region will not be effective."
At present, air tickets purchased by tour operators cost the same as for other customers.

In the Red River Delta, it is practically de rigueur for every commune to have at least one pagoda, so these places of worship are to be found in the thousands. Standing out amidst this multitude is the 1,000-year-old Tra Phuong Pagoda in Tra Phuong Village, Thuy Huong Commune in Hai Phong City’s Kien Thuy District. Thich Quang Man, head of the pagoda, is agile at over 90 years of age, of sound mind and a walking dictionary on Buddhism as well as the coastal area of Hai Phong. I have had several conversations with him and he has told me many things about the history and other salient features of the pagoda. There is arguably no other place in Vietnam that enchants visitors as much as the northwestern region. And the place that leaves the highest number of indelible impressions on the mind is the Mai Chau Town in Hoa Binh Province, known also as the Mai Chau Valley. With the cultural characteristics of the Thai ethnic minority residents lending added sparkle to a landscape of lush green fields, mountains and streams, a world vastly different from bustling cities and towns can be found in Mai Chau. A popular way to get there is to drive a bike along National Highway 6, going past the 12 kilometers Doc Cun (literally meaning Cun Slope, but it is in fact a mountain pass) and the Thung Nhuoi Mountain pass to get to the valley. Vietnam is a gourmet paradise well known for its fabulous, exotic cuisine that differs between the southern, central and northern regions of the country. Experience a Vietnam culinary tour that incorporates cultural highlights, cooking classes and dining in gourmet restaurants along the way. From lessons in urban Saigon to classes in a beautiful villa set in lush tropical surrounds, this Vietnam culinary tour will be a gastronomic delight for the senses.

Hoa Lo prison’s historical, cultural values promoted
Head of the Management Board Nguyen Thi Hien said that the board has focused on exhibits on the life of revolutionary soldiers who were held at Hoa Lo prison in Hanoi under the French occupation, trying to find those still alive among almost 2,000 former prisoners in order to collect more documents and objects.
An exhibition section on the life of US pilots taken prisoner attracts attention of visitors, especially those from the US, Europe and Asia.
The board organises knowledge contests on the prison’s history for students and pupils in Hanoi as well as meetings with historical witnesses every year.
Hoa Lo prison was built in Hanoi by the French colonialists in 1896. The relic site receives more than 100,000 visitors each year, 70 percent of whom are foreigners.
Terracotta cultural park comes to Hoi An
The Thanh Ha Terracotta Cultural Park has investment of VND22 billion and is located on the 500-year-old traditional pottery village of Thanh Ha.
The park will cover 5,800 square meters, consisting of five theme zones: pottery museum, outdoor exhibition, performance stage, composition camp, and trade promotion and services.
The park is shaped like the turning table used in the process of making pottery products.
Architect Nguyen Van Nguyen, director of NhaVietcorp, said: “The park expects to help preserve and promote the traditional culture of the Thanh Ha pottery village, to create jobs for local people as well as become a good tourist spot for Hoi An”.
The park, which is expected to be completed in July 2013, will also be attractive to researchers and students due to the sculptures and artwork. In the park, the investor will also build miniature works of My Son Sanctuary, Hoi An ancient town and Hue Citadel on a scale of 1/10.
Developing cultural industries in Vietnam
Present at the seminar were representatives from the cultural organisations and arts and communication associations, cultural researchers and businesses in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
MCST Deputy Minister Ho Anh Tuan said the seminar helps managers and law makers at both local and central levels to discuss practical and theoretical issues of the cultural industries, especially cinematography, performing arts, fine arts and photography in Vietnam as well as devising measures to support these sectors.
During the two-day seminar, delegates heard reports on the condition of the cinematography, performing arts, fine arts and photography sectors and discussed other issues related to intellectual property rights and the creative industry.
Quan ho folklore singing being preserved and promoted
The provincial People’s Committee made a list to propose the State confer the title of “outstanding artist” to 40 Quan ho folklore singers; and completed a curriculum on teaching folklore singing and will apply it from preschools to high schools in the province from the 2011-2012 school year.
The province also invested tens of billion VND to encourage the movement on singing Quan ho folklore in villages, building stages and restoring historical relics associated with the establishment and development of Quan ho. Bac Ninh provincial School of Culture and Arts began training courses on Quan ho folklore singing, drawing the participation of dozens of students.
